Arsenal are ahead of their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign young Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan N’Dicka.
The 21-year-old Frenchman first appeared on Premier League squads’ radar in March 2020, but N’Dicka was injured during the summer, which saw his suitors consider other options instead.
However, he has since recovered and returned to his best form, helping Frankfurt achieve five wins in their last six appearances for the club, and Bild claims Arsenal have rekindled their interest in the young defender.
The Gunners are expected to try to rejuvenate their back line this summer. Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos both left the club in the winter window, while David Luiz’s contract ends at the end of the season.
The Boy Scouts have named N’Dicka as a potential star of the future, and the fact that he is left-handed and comfortable as a left-back would also have worked in his favor.
Arsenal are said to lead other contenders Tottenham and Southampton in the race to sign N’Dicka, largely because he is represented by the man who negotiated Nicolas Pepe’s transfer to the Emirates, Michael N ‘ Cho Ibou.
There will likely be more teams interested if N’Dicka can maintain their current level of performance. Upon returning from injury in November, Frankfurt was 11th in the Bundesliga, but a streak of just one loss since has taken them to fourth place.
He remains under contract in Germany until 2023, so Frankfurt won’t be in a rush to sell, although the recent departures of Luka Jovic and Sebastien Haller prove that Frankfurt is still ready to sell at the right price.
Arsenal would have to pay if they want to land N’Dicka, but the interests of Tottenham and Southampton may well push Frankfurt’s asking price up a bit more.
The defender has already sparked interest from Valencia, Sevilla, AC Milan and Inter, and it looks like it’s only a matter of time before N’Dicka seals his successful move away from the Deutsche Bank Park.
