Fire trucks called to Man Utd team hotel before Everton shock

Manchester United suffered a brief hiatus in their preparations for Saturday night’s Premier League clash with Everton and Old Trafford when fire engines were called to the team hotel in Salford seven hours before the kick-off sending.

United typically use the luxury hotel, located just across the River Irwell from Manchester city center and a short drive from Old Trafford, as a base before home games.

But when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his team arrived in the team coach on Saturday noon, the fire engines were already on their way to the hotel.

The Daily Mirror writes that the United Party stopped shortly after 1 p.m., only for two fire trucks to arrive almost immediately after as well. Fire crews are said to have jumped out of vehicles and rushed inside, only to end up as a false alarm.

Firefighters are said to have left when all appeared to be fine and the Mirror suggests the problem may have been caused by a fire alarm going off in the hotel’s kitchens.

Whatever the issue, Solskjaer and the United squad were then able to come in and continue their preparations for the crucial game without further issues or setbacks.

Following back-to-back games without a win, United came back on their way to victory last time around when they beat Southampton 9-0 at Old Trafford to tie their own 1995 Premier League record.

The result almost doubled their goal difference, completely reversing the damage inflicted by the 6-1 loss to Tottenham earlier in the season, and kept United in second place in the table.

A win over Everton would see United tie the points with leaders Manchester City and put pressure on their rivals, who are in action at Liverpool just under 24 hours later.
