Manchester United center-back Harry Maguire expects a tough test when his side travel to face former employers Leicester City on Boxing Day.
It’s one of the most enticing games on the calendar as it pits second-placed Foxes against third-placed United, who can edge their opponents with a victory at King Power Stadium.
Both sides are coming into the game in exciting form, and Maguire has told United’s official website that he is looking forward to the battle ahead.
“They started off really well, like they did last season,” said Maguire. “It’s a great team with great players and a great manager.
“I really expected them to be competing for the top four again. They had a great result against Spurs, I expected them to go there and get a result. Tactically they are very good and it will be a difficult challenge, but it is a challenge that we look forward to and approach with confidence.
The two sides haven’t met since the final day of the 2019/20 season, in which United claimed a 2-0 victory to advance to the Champions League at Leicester’s expense, and Maguire called from his side to enter Saturday’s game in the same state of mind.
“Last season was a huge game, a cup final,” he continued. “We had to get a result there and we managed to do it, and we have to treat this game on Boxing Day like we did last season.
“That’s how every game should be, we can’t lose points. We want to go out there, be positive and win the game. But of course we know it will be a tough game because they are a top team.
“It’s just important to keep winning and taking care of your own point total. You can get a head start when it comes to other people’s results and you just need to take care of yourself.
“If you keep winning games and putting three points on the table, you’ll be there or so. We don’t get carried away like I said. We had a big win [against Leeds] but there is a lot of improvement. We have to make sure we have challenges at the end of the season. This is what we must aim for. “
