Odion Ighalo attracts transfer interest with Manchester United loan set to end

Manchester United lender Odion Ighalo is attracting interest from clubs in Qatar and Saudi Arabia with his contract at Old Trafford set to expire at the end of the month.

Ighalo initially joined the club he supported as a child in January last year, a move that was widely criticized as a panic buy at the time. Despite those doubts, he has proven to be a solid contributor, registering five goals and one assist in 19 appearances last season.

That was enough to convince United to extend their loan stint beyond the end of last season, but he has barely featured in the current campaign. The arrival of Edinson Cavani pushed the Nigerian into the pecking order with his only starts coming in the early rounds of the EFL Cup.

According to Sky Sports, his time with the Red Devils will end on January 31 and his next move could take him to the Middle East. Clubs from Qatar and Saudi Arabia are both reportedly interested, while Ighalo is not against returning to his parent club Shanghai Shenhua, where he is under contract until December 31.

Several Premier League clubs have also made provisional research on the striker and although he is ready to listen to the offers it would be a surprise to see him stay in England.

Ighalo United’s departure will coincide with the arrival of youngster Atalanta Amad Diallo at some point this month. The 18-year-old agreed to join the Red Devils on the transfer deadline day in October, but remained in Bergamo until he received a work permit.

Having finally received an Italian passport, he will join his teammates in the coming days, despite Atalanta attempts to keep him on loan until the end of the season.
